Moving to Philadelphia

Penn is situated in the University City section of West Philadelphia, just across the river from Center City Philadelphia. The city’s neighborhoods and suburbs offer a wide range of housing choices, nightlife, culture, and recreation. We encourage you to visit Philadelphia and explore its diverse neighborhoods.

Safety on Campus

imagePenn’s Division of Public Safety is responsible for providing comprehensive safety and security services for the campus and surrounding community. The Division delivers a comprehensive and integrated safety and security program in partnership with the community they serve. For detailed information about the collection of crime statistics required by the Clery Act, visit the Division of Public Safety’s Clery Act & Crime Reporting page.

Many features are available to help you navigate campus safely, including Walking Escort Services, Penn Transit Services, and Blue Light Emergency Phones. In addition, free self-defense courses are available to all students.

DPS’s Safety Services will give you the primer you need to make sure you are doing everything you can to stay safe, have fun and enjoy your time at Penn.

During New Graduate Student Orientation, the Graduate Student Center offers seminars on living safely in Philadelphia. Our NSO website includes presentations from last year’s seminars, and a schedule of upcoming seminars to take place in August.
